SAMPLE ITINERARY
Day 1: Dublin - Doolin, Co Clare
Depart Dublin. Take an optional visit to the Kilbeggan Whiskey Distillery
- this is oldest Pot Still distillery in the world! Travel through
Counties Dublin, Kildare, West Meath, Roscommon and Galway. Arrive
Atlantic coastline for pub lunch or picnic. Explore Kinvarra village
including Dunguire Castle, ancient seat of the High Kings of Munster,
Hookers - traditional Sailing boats. Overnight at Doolin Activity
Lodge, Doolin.
Day 2: Doolin - Roundstone, Co Galway
Depart Doolin. Visit Poulnabrone Dolmen, famous megalithic tomb.
Off-road short cut back towards Galway city. Lunch stop in Galway
city. Head north into Connemara region, famous for its wild and
rugged landscape and stunning scenery. Go for a walk in the Mamturk
Mountains and follow the footsteps of St Patrick. Visit Dogs Bay
Beach - white sandy beach to watch the sun go down. Overnight at
the Bali Lodge, Clifden.
Day 3: Roundstone - Newport, Co Mayo
Depart Roundstone/Clifden. Visit Claddaghduff/Cleggan and rent horses
for a gallop along the beach or drive across the Omey Island at
low tide. Go for a walk in the Connemara National Park and see Twelve
Bens Mountain Range. Admire Kylemore Abbey, one of Ireland's most
beautiful buildings and visit Killary Harbour, Ireland's only fjord.
Stop at Leenane for a quick pint in 'The Field Pub', named after
the movie which was filmed here, at the head of Killary Harbour.
Next you'll visit cross into County Mayo and into the Mweelrea
Mountains. Visit Doolough Valley and follow the road up through
the Mountain pass of 'The valley of the Black Lake' - absolutely
stunning! In the evening you'll visit Silver Strand Beach for bonfire,
barbecue and a game of Gaelic football on one of the most remote
and beautiful beaches in Ireland. At Croagh Patrick, walk up the
Mountain from where St Patrick banished the snakes from Ireland.
Overnight at Mccarthy's B&B, Westport.
Day 4: Newport - Dublin
Depart Westport. Heading due south stop at Partry Mountains for
a walk and to clear the head. Visit Lough Mask which offers a great
view down onto on of Ireland's biggest lakes. Pass through this
Irish-speaking region of Gaeltacht. Lunch stop and possible visit
to Ashford Castle (once home to the Guinness family). Head East
through counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon. Stop at River Shannon,
cross back over into Leinster, the east of Ireland. There may be
a possible stop for a pint on the way home at Tyrellspass Castle.
You will arrive in Dublin between 5:30pm - 6:00pm.
